Boston Date Night Series: Dinner + A Bruins Game with Friends

Who says date night can’t include friends?! For this week’s post, we headed to North Station to grab dinner and catch a Bruins game with friends. Darren snagged four tickets, so we brought his sister Beth and our roommate Hannah along for the ride. It was so much fun hanging out and routing for our home team, even if – spoiler alert – they didn’t win!

Before the game, we had dinner at Ward 8, a gastropub with rustic decor and a yummy menu. It was packed due to the game, but the atmosphere was still fun. While everyone else enjoyed beer + cider served in classic stein glasses, I opted for my usual Ginger Ale. We each went for something different on the menu. I selected the Fried Chicken Sandwich (toppings on the side), which was expertly paired with vinegar pepper aioli, cheddar, and coleslaw. Darren went for the Ward 8 Burger and had good things to say about it. Hannah followed on the sandwich train and got “The Burger,” a classic. Finally, Beth enjoyed the Spinach + Artichoke Mac + Cheese, sans panko bread crumbs. All in all, it was a great meal before the big game!

As soon as the check was signed, we headed over to TD Garden for the game. Construction has finally wrapped on the front entrance, which I was in awe of. It felt like they had been working on it for so long; I was getting used to entering through North Station to go to Celtics games. Our tickets were in the balcony, which is honestly my favorite spot to take in the whole game. We had a great view!

It was a great time to be at the Garden. With the Pats in the Super Bowl, everyone was in good spirits and they paid a special tribute to the team on the big screen during a timeout. It was pretty great to see footage of Tom Brady dancing at a Super Bowl ring party when we scored the first goal, too!

Our opponent was the Philadelphia Flyers and they kept us on our toes the whole game. The Bruins scored the first goal, but the Flyers scored the last, a winning goal in over time to beat us 3:2. Still, it was such a fun night with friends and we all left with a smile.
