Boston Date Night Series: Dinner at Blu + Rocketman at AMC Boston Common 19
Coming at you with a new date night idea! There is so much to do Downtown – I’ve already showed you a favorite spot near Downtown Crossing – so it was inevitable that Darren and I would be back for a Friday night get-together. Boston Common is as beautiful as ever now that the weather has warmed up, so we thought we’d explore that area to kick off our weekend. We decided on dinner and a movie, and even threw in an impromptu photoshoot in the park just as the sun was setting. It was a beautiful night, and I’m excited to share it with you now!
For dinner, Darren made a 5:45 PM reservation at Blu, an upscale spot on the fourth floor of the Equinox on Avery Street with cool views and seasonal menus. We were seated at a nice table for two with a view of The Paramount Center. Darren, fittingly, ordered The Paramount Cocktail – a concoction of prosecco, orange blossom, fresh lemon, and aromatics with a cherry at the bottom. I went for the non-alcoholic Pear Bubbler, made with pear nectar and sparkling water. For our meals, we selected two delicious entrees: Shrimp Scampi Linguine for Darren and Grilled Sirloin Steak for me. Everything was delicious and our overall experience at Blu was great. I would love to go back!
Before making our way over to the movies, we stepped into the park just as the sun was beginning to set. The Common was swathed in gorgeous, golden afternoon light and I was inspired to do a quick, impromptu photoshoot. Darren, ever the doting photographer (thanks love!), captured the moment as I twirled around in the middle of the sidewalk and stood in the Parkman Bandstand. The photos turned out great and it was nice to take in more of the beautiful weather before heading into the theater.
We popped over to the AMC Boston Common 19 right before our 7:30 PM showing of Rocketman. For those who haven’t seen the previews, Rocketman is the fantastical biography of Sir Elton John. I would classify it as a musical, so be prepared for loads of musical numbers, showstopping costumes, and great acting. Taron Egerton was fantastic, and the supporting cast was full of big names with equally big performances, such as Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard. It was interesting to see Elton John’s life portrayed in this way; I learned a lot about him that I didn’t know before and my love for his timeless songs grew even more. A must-see for fans of Elton and musical-lovers alike!
The next time you’re in the mood for a nice dinner and a great movie, head over to Boston Common to check out Blu and AMC! If you’ve seen Rocketman as well, let me know your thoughts in the comments!
