Credo Beauty Women Founders Series: Clean Beauty Master Class with Indie Lee

I’m so excited to share the details of an amazing event I attended last week! My company, Youth Marketing Connection, has an awesome policy called “Fun Funds,” where a portion of our revenue is set aside for both the Boston and D.C. teams to spend on bonding experiences in the city. When deciding what to spend it on this month, the Boston team searched for all kinds of events, from concerts to paint nights to comedy shows. We happened upon an opportunity on Eventbrite to meet the founder of the clean skin care brand Indie Lee at Credo Boston and instantly knew it was a perfect fit. The event promised that we would hear Indie Lee’s journey/brand story and learn an at-home facial routine. It delivered both of those things, along with so much more. Keep reading for a closer look at this clean beauty master class!

Before this event, I have to admit that I hadn’t heard of Credo Beauty. But now that I know about it, I can’t wait to go back! Credo is the largest non-toxic clean beauty store on the planet. They hold every single product on their shelves to the Credo Clean Standard. This standard combines avoiding a “Dirty List” of ingredients that can be harmful and ensuring that the product is sustainable from start to finish (from sourcing to manufacturing). It’s crazy when you realize how quickly ingredients can absorb into your skin/bloodstream (seconds) and how much lipstick you ingest in a year (tubes full). Credo makes navigating the beauty industry a little less scary and allows you to rest assured that the products you’re putting on your face and body are safer.

Another great thing about Credo is that they celebrate the women who are making incredible products in the industry. Indie Lee is one of these women and her story is amazing. She had been growing her own plants and edible flowers in a greenhouse in her backyard when she started experiencing odd symptoms such as headaches and loss of vision. Unsure why she was having these strange issues being such a healthy eater and living an active lifestyle, she went in for an MRI and discovered she had a rare brain tumor. Doctors said the cause was likely from carcinogenic ingredients in products she had been putting on her skin for years. After surviving a life-threatening surgery, she found her purpose in life creating clean beauty products and helping to educate others on the potential risks of harmful ingredients found in beauty and skincare. Thus, Indie Lee Skincare was born.

The master class setup was really well done. Everyone was given the materials they needed to learn Indie’s routine for an at-home facial. We had little bowls of water, sponges + towels, mirrors, headbands, and product testers to follow along as she walked us through the steps. The products in the Indie Lee collection are helpfully arranged into categories: prepare, perfect, prevent, protect, and boost. To prepare, cleanse the face to remove makeup and daily pollution. To perfect, prime the skin and tone to let the products that follow act more efficiently. This could include a peel, toner, scrub, or other perfecting product. To prevent, use a serum to treat the skin and repair damage. To protect, finish with a moisturizer to defend against dehydration. If needed, boost the skin with a treatment like the Banish Stick, for days when your skin needs some extra help. With multiple products in each category, you can customize this routine to support your skin’s specific needs, whether you have acne prone, dry, or maturing skin.

After the class, I immediately identified my favorite products and purchased them on-site to take home with me:

  • Banish Stick – this on-the-go treatment stick is perfect for fighting blemishes before they happen; apply when you feel a spot coming on
  • Blemish Lotion – this overnight treatment helps dry out existing acne and reduce the appearance/calm redness; let the ingredients settle to the bottom, dip a Q-tip in, and apply directly to spots, allowing to dry overnight and rinsing away in the morning
  • Brightening Cleanser – this brightening cleanser smells like fresh strawberries! I use it daily in combination with Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
  • CoQ-10 Toner – this refreshing toner provides a burst of hydration to start the day; spritz on the face and neck before moisturizing

I’ve been using them everyday since and have seen incredible results – my skin has never felt better!

A huge thanks to Indie Lee and the team at Credo Beauty for hosting this informative and fun event. You can follow Credo Beauty on Instagram at @credobeauty and Indie Lee at @indie_lee!
