Boston Date Night Series: Coolidge Corner
Happy Friday! For week two of our Boston date night series, Darren and I headed to Cooldige Corner for a movie and drinks. The Coolidge Corner Theater is playing some of the big award-nominated movies right now, so we chose to grab tickets for The Favourite. The theater is so cool because of its vintage atmosphere and specialization in independent film. We were in the screening room, an intimate, 45-seat theater with some classic touches. It really brought an old-school feel to watching the film.
With Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, and Rachel Weisz leading the cast, The Favourite follows the hot-tempered Queen Anne (Coleman) during her early 18th century rein as she tries to sort through the politics of war while dealing with her health. Meanwhile, Lady Sarah Churchill (Weisz) and Abigail Masham (Stone) duke it out as to who will be the queen’s closest companion and in turn, hold power within the aristocracy. It was an surprising movie, filled with funny quips, interesting twists, and lots of deception. I definitely liked it, but it was a lot to take in!
We followed the movie with appetizers and drinks at Hamilton Restaurant & Bar just up the street. We sat at the bar and both the Celtics and Bruins were playing, so Darren was excited to be able to catch the end of both games. I ordered a ginger ale (in case you didn’t already know, I don’t drink alcohol) and the chicken flatbread. Darren went for a Cloud Candy IPA by Mighty Squirrel Brewing Co and the chicken quesadilla. The bartenders were nice and food was good for a quick bite.
Despite the Celtics loss, it was a fun night out and I’d love to go back to the Coolidge Corner Theater again soon!
