Boston Date Night Series: Broadway Station
For those of you who aren’t long-time Bostonians, you may not know that we have a Broadway, too; though it’s very different from the Broadway you’ll find in NYC! Located in South Boston, Broadway Station is on the Red Line at the intersection of Dorchester Ave and Broadway. Darren and I headed there this week to check out a fun little bar and grill called Backyard Betty’s.
I found this place on Instagram when they followed me while I was still @BackyardBeautyxo. Maybe it was the name connection or maybe they just liked my content. Either way, I was instantly intrigued by their photos of yummy dishes and fun decor. It took us a while to plan our trip over to Southie, but it was well worth it!
The atmosphere is so cool + classic, and the delivery of complimentary cornbread when we sat down instantly had me in a good mood. I ordered the pulled pork sliders with coleslaw + pickles (note: you order the sliders a la carte off the snack menu – I got three for my meal). Darren was also in the mood for pulled pork, so he went for the wood grilled flatbread with Texas BBQ, overnight pork, pickled red onions, jack and cheddar. As you can tell from his face in the photo above, it was REALLY good!
After dinner, we headed over to the indoor backyard area to play some games. They had corn hole, jumbo Jenga + Connect 4, and old fashioned Pac Man games. There was also a second bar area over near the backyard, which was closed during our visit, but I still snagged a photo to show you how cute + kitschy the decor is. With the weather in freezing temperatures, it was a nice treat to be able to play games inside. Darren may have beat me 2 out of 3 games at corn hole, but it was still a great time!
We had such a good time, it was hard to leave! But we had to go catch the Celtics game for Darren. Backyard Betty’s was showing the Bruins game on their TVs – it’s always hard when both games are on the same day. We decided to grab treats at Doughboy Donuts + Deli on the way since it’s near the station. I picked up a minion cookie and my night was pretty much made. Overall, such a fun date!
