Boston Date Night Series: Small Plates at Elm Street Taproom + Local Theater
Sometimes I prefer small plates over a meal. You get to sample a bunch of different things and share with others at the table, which I like since I hardly ever finish a full meal by myself. That’s why I was excited to try Elm Street Taproom in Somerville with Darren last week before hitting up a show by a local theater company. With its casual yet chic atmosphere and yummy “Snacks” + “Shares” on the menu, it was the perfect place for a Friday date night.
As soon as I saw a Charcuterie board on the menu, I knew I had to go for it. I’ve never been much of a cheese + crackers person because I actually have an aversion to cold cheese (weird, I know). However, I love brie + prosciutto on baguette. It’s one of my favorite combos. This board (seen below) had a great selection of items, including dried chorizo, prosciutto di parma, soppressata, brie, cheddar, boursin, kalamata olives, peppers, artichoke hearts, quince paste, baguette, and crackers. We devoured the whole thing!
For our main course, we decided to split two additional plates under the “Shares” section of the menu. The Pear and Nut Salad was calling my name. A delicious spring mix with gorgonzola, sharp cheddar, cranberries, candied nuts, and cider dressing, it was so yummy! We also added carne asada steak to the top – a choice I would highly recommend. We also got the Taproom Meatballs, which were three wonderfully tender meatballs with ricotta cheese, red sauce, and garlic bread. All of the food was incredible!
Following our meal, we went to see Theater@First’s production of Burning. Darren designed the set for this show and had worked with Theater@First on previous community theater productions. I didn’t take any photos while we were there – partly because I forgot and partly because it’s frowned upon in the world of theater – but the show is really good. The acting is phenomenal and the emotions are SO real. Burning is in its final weekend of shows, so there’s still time to see it! Grab your tickets here for Friday’s 8 PM show or the 4 PM Saturday matinee.
And that does it for this Boston Date Night Series post. I hope you consider going to support some local Boston theater. Be sure to check out the Elm Street Taproom while you’re in the area as well!
